First Meeting of the Year!!

Hello Friends!!

It’s time it’s time! We finally get to come together again and play…MOPS style! Thursday, September 15 from 9:30-11:30am is our Fall Kickoff meeting! *cue cheers and applause* You won’t be Sorry that you’ve decided to join us for another exciting year!

Ladies, it will Boggle your mind the fun things we have planned for you on this day! Since we know you’ll be busy getting your littleHungry Hungry Hippos ready for the day, we bet Apples to Apples you won’t have much time for yourself. We’ll have a fabulous breakfast for you with bottomless coffee and tea, an entertaining skit for your viewing pleasure, a fantastic introduction to this year’s theme MomSense and you’ll meet the Masterminds on this year’s Lake Grove MOPS leadership team. Oh yes, and it’ll be a glorious Paydayfor you because we have fun games in store with prizes and free giveaways!

We know Life gets hectic and it may have escaped your Memory to register for our 2011-2012 MOPS year. Well it’ll be no Trouble to register at our Fall Kickoff because the first order of the day will be to register those of you who still need to! If you need to register we encourage you to try and arrive around 9:15 so we have plenty of time to get everyone registered before our festivities begin. We’ll have laptops set up so we can enter you in the system right away and take payment. You can pay with cash, check or credit/debit card. Here’s how this breaks down:

The fee for MOPS International is $23.95 for the year and goes directly to MOPS International.
The fee for Lake Grove MOPS is $5 per meeting and goes directly to our group. You have three options for this one:

a. Pay $5 at each meeting

b. Pay one lump sum of $90 for the year

c. Pay $45 now and $45 in the spring

Please please please do not let finances deter you from being part of our group. If for whatever reason these fees are a struggle for you, please contact us at mops@lakegrovemops.org and we will find a way to make it work. Okay?

Getting Ready!

As you browse our site you’ll notice some changes we are gearing up and getting ready for our 2011-2012 MOPS year!

Mark your calendars–Thursday, September 15 is our first MOPS meeting! Our new theme for the 2011-2012 MOPS year is MomSense. What is MomSense? Straight from MOPS International:

MomSense: Bold • Loving • Sensible – equips moms to embrace their mothering instincts and develop their own parenting style while navigating through the myriad of daily mom decisions. Most women wonder:

How do I decide what to do when I really don’t know what to do?
Should I trust my intuition?
With so much available information, how do I discern what’s best?
What are the most important family values?

Developing a mothering strategy is somewhat like playing a game — and this year’s theme is appropriately game related. Have fun being a mom! Playing games involves being bold and taking risks, loving those in the game with us and being sensible while figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Just as in real-life, sometimes in games, unexpected, “chance” events occur, abruptly changing our paths. We must regroup and determine our next steps. Sometimes we follow the instructions of “experts.” Sometimes we follow the advice of trusted friends. Sometimes we decide our “house rules” work best for our family. Teaming together with other moms is a great strategy. Relying on a spouse or mentor can help us play more effectively. And, most of all, developing a strong God-Sense is essential for mothering. Growing as a mom through the analogy of game playing assures every mom gains confidence in her abilities as a mom.

Combining her mom intuition and her common sense helps a woman discover her own unique MomSense.

Thanks for Making a Difference!

Back in May we had our “Senior Project” day where we put together care bags for moms who have kiddos in the pediatric intensive care unit in The Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. The purpose of this project was to show love, support, and encouragement to those moms who are by their kids’ bedsides loving, supporting, and encouraging their children. At Lake Grove MOPS we are all moms who know and understand that the last person we think of when our kids are unwell, is ourselves. So, we wanted to care for the moms who are busy caring for their sick little ones.

We dedicated an entire meeting to filling up around 40 care bags with useful and comforting items like, water bottles, snacks, notepads & pens, gum, chocolate, granola bars, lotion, and most importantly hand written notes of encouragement and love.

A special thanks to our own Allison Beam who delivered all these bags to the Children’s Hospital! She reported to our group that the donation coordinator, Sally Kirchoff, was so grateful and thankful for our group’s generosity towards the mothers. Ms. Kirchoff said that most everybody donates toys and things to the kiddos in the PICU but never have they received anything for the moms. Ms. Kirchoff said these bags would be greatly appreciated and needed by many moms. She was stunned at the number of bags we gave them!
